                                         HSEE is conducted by IIT Madras to shortlist aspirants for admission in five year integrated Master of Arts (MA) programme offered by the college. The first two years of the MA programme offered at IIT Madras are the same. However, after that the course branches into two streams – Integrated MA in Development Studies and Integrated MA in English Studies. Total number of seats on offer in IIT Madras’s MA course are 46 (each year). Humanities and Social Sciences Entrance Exam (HSEE) is of three hours duration. The test paper comprises of multiple choice questions (MCQs) as well as descriptive question. The test is extremely competitive and out of the total number of students who appear for HSEE, only 2% are shortlisted for admission.

Eligibility Criteria
                                   Candidates meet HSEE 2018 eligibility criteria if they have cleared any of the below mentioned examinations with qualifying marks in 2017 or are appearing for them in 2018:

• The final examination of the 10+2 system, conducted by a Central or State Board recognised by the Association of Indian Universities
• Intermediate or two-year Pre-University examination conducted by a Board or University recognised by the Association of Indian Universities.
• Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defense Academy.
• Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling with a minimum of five subjects.
• Any Public School, Board or University examination in India or in a foreign country recognised as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities.
• HSC vocational examination.
• General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London, Cambridge or Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level.
• High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.
                                   The official website informs: “Candidates who have completed Class XII (or equivalent) examination outside India or from a Board not specified above should produce a certificate from the Association of Indian Universities to the effect that the examination they have passed is equivalent to the Class XII examination”. It further states, “In case the Class XII examination is not a public examination, the candidate must have passed at least one public (Board or Pre-University) examination earlier”.
                                   To meet the eligibility criteria for HSEE exam, candidates should have secured atleast 60% aggregate marks in the qualifying exam if they are from General or OBC category. On the other hand, SC, ST and PwD category candidates meet HSEE 2018 eligibility criteria if they have secure minimum 55% marks in aggregate in the qualifying exam. “Where only letter grades are mentioned in the grade sheet, the candidate should obtain a certificate from the Board specifying equivalent marks, and submit it at the time of joining. In case the candidate does not provide such a certificate, the decision of the HSEE admission committee regarding his/her eligibility shall be final”, informs the official website of IIT HSEE.

Age Limit: General category candidates are eligible to apply for HSEE 2018 if they are born on or after October 1, 1993. SC/ST/PwD candidates are given age relaxation of 5 years.
HSEE 2018 Exam Centers
                                   HSEE 2018 test centres have not been declared yet. However, last year the exam was conducted across 12 test cities in the country. IIT HSEE 2017 test centres are as mentioned below:  Bengaluru , Bhopal , Chennai , Coimbatore , Guwahati , Hyderabad , Kochi , Kolkata , Mumbai , New Delhi  , Thiruvananthapuram , Varanasi.

                                   The official website informs: “A candidate has to give two choices for the exam centre. If sufficient number of candidates are not available at any of the above listed cities, the same may be dropped, and the candidates will be allocated a centre of second choice in the other city”.
HSEE 2018 Results
Declaration of HSEE 2018 Result : 15 May 2018

                                       HSEE result is declared on the official website of IIT Madras. The result of IIT HSEE 2018 is released in the form of a merit list which informs the name and other details of candidates shortlisted for admission. Apart from this, a separate merit list is released with names of candidates who have secured minimum 50% marks in Humanities and Social Sciences Entrance Exam for IIT Madras admissions. A separate rank list is published for candidates belonging to SC, ST, OBC-NCL and PwD categories. Result for IIT HSEE is usually declared in the month of May. Further, candidates are informed that all of them need to check their result for the humanities entrance exam online only as no one would be intimated the result by any other means such as post/email/SMS.
HSEE 2018 Admit Card
                                        HSEE admit card is now available on the official website of IIT Madras. The admit card for IIT HSEE is issued for only those candidates who have duly filled and submitted their application form for Humanities and Social Sciences Entrance Exam. Candidates are informed that all of them have to download their HSEE hall ticket from the official website of the exam as no hard copy of the same would be sent to them through post or by any other medium.
