National Entrance Screening Test (NEST) is conducted jointly by
National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar and
Mumbai University - Department of Atomic Energy Centre for Excellence in
Basic Sciences (UM-DAE CEBS), Mumbai. The exam is conducted in order to
provide admission to candidates in five-year integrated MSc programme in
basic sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics) offered at both
NISER and UM-DAE CEBS. Admissions in NISER, Bhubaneswar and UM-DAE CEBS,
Mumbai are done on the basis of a candidate’s score in NEST exam. Candidates
who have passed Class XII from Science stream are eligible to apply for NEST
exam. |

Eligibility Criteria |
• Candidates should pass Class XII in Science stream from a
recognised board in India with at least 60% aggregate marks (55% for SC/ ST/
PwD category candidates).
• Candidates should have passed Class XII either in 2017 or 2018.
Candidates appearing for their Class XII exams in 2019 are also eligible to
apply.
• Candidates should have studied a combination of any three subjects among
Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics in classes XI and XII.
• Age criteria: Candidates belonging to
General and OBC categories should be born on or after August 1, 1999 in order
to fulfill NEST eligibility criteria. Age limit relaxation of five years is
given to candidates belong to SC/ ST/ PwD category.
• For OBC category candidates, the OBC (NCL) certificate should be issued
on or after June 1, 2018. |
NEST 2019 Exam Centres |
NEST 2019 exam centre details are not out yet. However, in 2018 the
Science entrance exam was conducted at a total of 109 centres (mentioned
below) all over India. Candidates could choose five exam centres in order of
preference while filling the NEST application form.

NEST Pattern
2019 |
NEST is a computer-based test that consists of five sections having
multiple choice questions. First section of NEST 2019 is mandatory for all
candidates. Out of the other four sections, candidates need to attempt any
three sections. However, the official website states, "Candidates are
permitted to attempt as many subject–sections as they wish. Only the best
three subject–scores along with the score in the general section will be
counted for evaluation. Maximum marks candidates can score are 180 marks.
Candidates need to complete the exam in three hours duration.
Marking Scheme: In
General section there is no negative marking. However, "in the subject
sections, for certain questions there will be negative marking for incorrect
answers. Some questions may have one or more correct answers for which marks
can only be earned by marking all correct answers and no wrong answer,"
informs the official website. |
NEST Admit Card
2019 |
Once the application process is over, NEST admit cards are released in
online mode as per the prescribed schedule. NEST 2019 admit card download
date is not out yet. Candidates can download their NEST admit card from the
official website of the exam by logging in to their accounts using their
registered email IDs and passwords. Once downloaded, candidates need to take
a printout of the admit card and carry it along with their school photo ID or
any other photo ID issued by government agencies at the allotted exam centre.
NEST admit card will contain all relevant details regarding the candidate
(name, roll number, etc), exam (date, time, etc), and exam centre (name and
address). |
NEST
Counselling 2019 |
After NEST results are announced, all candidates are allotted seats in
their respective courses and colleges on the basis of counselling process of
NISER and CBS. It may be noted that there is no joint counselling for NEST
exam. A candidate qualifyng the written exam has to appear for counselling
sessions at NISER and CEBS separately, if invited. The process for NEST 2019
counselling is as mentioned below:
All qualifying candidates first need to register themselves on the
online counselling portal of the exam/ institutes. Thereafter, candidates
have to download as well as print forms such as:
• Student Personal Details
• Undertaking by the student and parent/guardian
• Student Medical History
• Format of Affidavit [anti-ragging] by Student and Parent/Guardian. |
NEST Result
2019 |
NEST 2019 result date is not out yet. However, in 2018 the result for
National Entrance Screening Test (NEST) was declared on June 18 at 12:00
Noon. NEST results are declared in online mode on the official website of the
exam. All candidates can check their NEST result and download scorecard by
clicking on the View Result link present on the exam portal and thereby
logging in to their registered accounts. |
